First of all, we must forget everything we’ve ever thought about how complicated playing music is. I compare it to ‘math anxiety’
Many people fear music and think that it takes a genius to be a good musician. To be a master it might take a genius, but to play songs on the guitar, sound good and have a great time is only a lesson or two away! I have been playing and teaching music professionally for many years and was a child piano prodigy myself. I play and teach: piano, guitar, bass, flute and drums. I have tought many friends and family members how to get started playing songs on the guitar practically overnight. When you are dedicated enough and passionate about learning the guitar, it comes a lot easier than you may think. My fiancee is also excelling at the guitar and the bass guitar since I’ve shown her a few methods and tricks. I hope this gives you the kick start you need to get started rockin’ and rollin’! Enjoy.

The Best Learning Guide How to Play Piano – Rocket Piano Must Be Your Best Bet!

October 18th, 2010

The way about learning to play piano by ear, when you first start out, is that it will take a while and you will need to be patient. When I first started out it took me quite some time and I had to work through quite a lot of frustrating moments but finally it was much more rewarding. Actually learning piano will be a lot of fun. There are some things about the physical connection between hand, ear, eye, and brain involved in learning to play piano which stimulates learning in general.

What reason is there for learning to play piano you might ask? Keeping the mind in shape is certainly one reason. Learning how to play piano by ear first though will refine your listening skills and eventually make reading sheet music a lot easier. Learning how to play can be a great joy for many reasons. Music can express an important part of us that can reach expression in no other way.

The one major advantage to piano playing over other instruments is that the piano is being played with more than one note. It means if you learn to play piano, you are able to accompany other instruments and even singers. For an example, when multiple notes are being played together, piano chords are achieved. The chords then come together to form a melody. Learning to identify notes will play a large part in your understanding of piano chords. As you move through your studies, you will learn all of the terminology associated with piano playing and the definition of each.

In an evening, someone who knows nothing about the piano might have the ability to play a melody just on chords alone. Playing by chords is usually encouraged more than playing by tablature. In the past experience, the focus should be on enjoying the experience and to savor the time that is available for playing and practice. Just get ready for some stinging stumbles though and some stress along the way, but please don’t be turned off by that. Please take pride in small accomplishments and recognize little improvements along the way. Learning to play the piano is a lifelong process.

One of the best ways to get started and learn to play piano in my opinion is an online piano course called “Rocket Piano” created by Ruth Searle. He is classically trained to Grade 8 in Solo Piano and has more than 15 years experience playing. While Classical piano is her specialty, she also has extensive experience playing and performing Jazz, Pop, Blues, Rock, and Gospel. She spent three years studying music and graduated with a Bachelor of Media Arts majoring in Commercial Music, also received an Australasian Award for Composition.

Rocket Piano is jam-packed with quality information, including hundreds of sound files, pictures, diagrams, videos lessons AND step-by-step instructions training you to read music AND play by ear, so you can play virtually any song that you hear – this is truly cutting-edge material! With Rocket Piano you’ll discover how to read music, how to improvise, how to play Pop, Jazz, Blues and Gospel, and how to play with the magic and “feel” of a professional. It is designed to be the easiest system to learn to play piano available anywhere.

Rocket Piano will guide you through the basics you need to know in order to play by ear, including what chords you need to know, developing your playing technique, notes, difficult chords and more.

Rocket Piano is the only educational program in the world that can teach even a 2 year old child to play piano with both hands and read music notes. This piano learning online course is useful for a beginner as well as an advanced student to develop the skills of fluent music reading and immaculate piano playing. This will help you over time, to identify the notes, intervals and patterns of the chords being played. It may be a little tough in the beginning, but you will become proficient at it soon.

Learning To Play Piano – You Can Learn Piano From Your Own Home

August 16th, 2010

Learning to play piano is a skill that is one of the most precious an individual can achieve. Playing the piano can enrich and add joy to your daily routine for the length of you life. Mastering this skill will engender awe from your social circle and can furnish you with unending play and use of your imagination. If you want to learn to play the piano it is never a bad time, regardless of your age. Despite having had some early training, some of you gave up on it to follow other pursuits as you got older.

There are those of you who wished to learn to play piano, however, time or money were an obstacle to getting reserved lessons as you grew up. With age you now have a strong longing to learn piano after all. The digital world of today is so interesting because you do not need to have a personal tutor who charges outlandish fees in order to learn how to play piano.

With the progress in technology, Internet advances have essentially ‘brought the tutor’ within your residence. With the availability of online courses, one constant remains, you learn to play on your schedule and pace. Those of you who lead busy lives will find this important. Learning to play piano simply takes too much time cannot be used as an excuse anymore. Whether it is 5:00 pm or 5:00 am, you can now simply determine the time.

Since most of the music classes in piano are populated with young people, many adults might be uneasy joining the class. Learning to play piano from home can be a reality with speedy Internet access. With the amazing interactivity of today’s Internet involvement you can become a really proficient piano player. Better quality courses often give you access to the teacher through email correspondence and on occasion by personal phone calls.

Learning to play piano using an online course is cool because you can take lessons without every telling anyone you are doing so. You have the ability to shock your peers at a social interaction by sitting down to the piano and playing a tune. How do you feel they would react if you sat down at the piano and belted out a complex score masterfully when they had no idea you knew piano?

One suggestion I can give you is to research piano courses that are reviewed on some top rated websites on the Internet. You will learn, without exception, all courses online offer to refund your money if you are not happy with their product so you are risking nothing. You could then try another course if you wanted. If you want to avoid making a guess as to the specific course you choose, try to find “review type” websites that comment on all the online courses in piano. This way you will avoid the hype that each course tends to use. Learning to play piano will occur quite rapidly if you heed this recommendation.

The Many Benefits of Learning Piano Chord Theory

August 2nd, 2010

Chances are if you’ve ever taken piano lessons, you probably spent at least a little bit of time on piano chords. But learning the names of a few basic chords and actually understanding chord theory are two different things. And while it’s possible to learn to play the piano without learning chords, there are several benefits to learning theory.

Many piano students complain that music theory is too hard to understand. They quickly give up in favor of simply playing piano by reading a score of written music. Those who take the time to get the basis of chord theory find that chordal theory helps them in several ways.

Learning chord-based theory is something like learning math. You can simply memorize the fact that 2 + 2 = 4, and that may get you by for a few years in school. Or, you can learn and understand why 2 + 2 = 4. Once you do, you’ll be able to succeed in math when the formulas become much too hard to simply memorize and regurgitate. The same is true of chord theory. It’s one thing to memorize a chord chart. If you don’t understand how chords work, your skills won’t get you very much further than basic piano playing.

One of the most obvious benefits of learning chords is that you will soon develop the skill of playing piano by ear. Have you every watched a band play, such as those on late-night TV talk shows? The pianists seem to be able to pick up any song, off the cuff, and begin playing it without the advantage of sheet music or having practiced. That’s music theory at work. There are few things more thrilling than to sit down at a piano, impromptu, and provide accompaniment for any song.

Those musicians with a bent toward writing original music will find that knowing theory is essential in creating music for lyrics. Even if you don’t transcribe the music yourself, chord theory will give you the means of communicating your ideas to the transcriptionist. The final product will be exactly as you envision it.

Once you understand how chords work, you’re also in a better position to learn to play other instruments; if not play them yourself, be able to work with other musicians in the setting of a band. For example, another instrument which relies heavily upon chord theory is the guitar. This is why many piano players find it easy to pick up on playing the guitar. In a band, the music relies very heavily upon the lead of the guitar and the piano. A knowledge and understanding of chord theory ensures that the pianist and guitarist are always on the same page, so to speak.

It’s vital to find a good instructor when it comes to chords. It may mean the difference between giving up in frustration and success by becoming proficient. Taking advantage of jam sessions in your area will also help you put chord theory skills into practice in a casual environment. You’ll be able to learn from other musicians whose passions are similar. Plus, students who learn chord theory notice a marked improvement in their general piano playing skills.

Learning Piano Chords

July 9th, 2010

If you are playing several notes at the same time, then you are playing piano chords.  Simply put, when multiple notes are played together, piano chords are achieved.  The chords then come together to form a melody.  Every song that you hear has a melody and it is through each melody that music is achieved.  Sound complicated?  Well, that’s ok because it really isn’t as difficult as it sounds.

As a musician, whether it be professional or hobbyist, you will need to learn the various types of piano chords.  The more that you understand about piano chords, the more variety you will have when playing.  If you want to write your own music, you not only need an ear for tunes, but also the understanding of how to make them come together.  A good instructor will introduce you to piano chords during lessons.

If you already have some experience, but simply want a better understanding of advanced piano chords, discuss these options with a private tutor or music teacher.  By gaining an understanding of what sounds good and what doesn’t, you will have the undeniable edge over other budding musicians.

Every piano has 88 keys and while it may seem intimidating to learn piano chords, it actually comes down to memory.  When typing on the computer, you know which keys to press in order to make a lowercase letters change to uppercase, right?  By studying piano chords, you will begin to understand which keys to press at the same time in order to play a chord.  During your introduction to learning piano, an instructor will cover some of the basic chords and you will come to know their sound when you hear them.  After enough practice, you will be able to immediately identify piano chords by ear.

There are several other ways to help in your learning of piano chords, including instructional books, tutorials and videos.  In the beginning, it may even help to label the keys until you have a better understanding of each of their unique sounds.  As you progress in your learning, you can remove the identification labels and play using any arrangement of sheet music.  Learning to identify notes will play a large part in your understanding of piano chords.  As you move through your studies, you will learn all of the terminology associated with piano playing and the definition of each.

Learning piano chords is a very important part of the process, but it does require a certain degree of patience.  Always remember that time will lessen the difficulty and, before you know it, you will be playing and identifying piano chords by ear.  While it may seem intimidating at first, you will soon begin to notice the ease of playing piano chords will come naturally.  Happy tunes!
